Read about this idea in a This Old House magazine (July 2011) and found a great link with the details on how to create better soil with minimal effort:
Preparing a Lasagna Bed Garden area
Want to start a class garden project and include some recycling in the mix? This soil preparation method eliminates the need to break up the hard ground that is so often found around the perimeter of school buildings. Add in some recycled paper, ask staff for donations of used coffee grounds and maybe the school cafeteria has vegetable or fruit clippings that can be incorporated?
