On a daily basis, my DH works with this three-month-old colt, Freddie. Sometimes it's just gliding a lead rope over Freddie's withers and rump, sometimes it's picking up one of his hooves and pounding the underside. All of it is for a purpose, for guiding Freddie to accept the kind of human touch that he'll one day experience more often; the feel of reins on his neck or the filing of his hooves by the farrier.
This afternoon Freddie got to experience the feeling of a steady weight on his middle back, where a blanket and saddle will eventually be set. Little by little, he's getting used to it.
